It seems to be a running theme with the hardcore leftists to hate children. While they certainly would never admit this openly, actions do speak a lot louder than words. The hundreds of millions lost to abortion scream out to their hatred of children. If they can’t kill them in the womb, they do their best to pervert them to a homosexual or transgendered lifestyle to ensure the survivors of the abortion carnage have as few of their own children as possible. Failing that, they apparently have developed a new tactic. A recent article from CBC illustrates this newly developing mindset.
According to the CBC article, some environmental groups are pushing the idea that not having children is somehow good for the planet. One of the groups has perhaps the most laughable and sad organization names I’ve read in a long time. They call themselves the “Voluntary Human Extinction Movement “. And yes, the title of the group means what it says. A header at the top of their ancient website says “Phasing out the human race by voluntarily ceasing to breed will allow Earth’s biosphere to return to good health.” In other words, these people are advocating for the extinction of humanity.
This seems a bit of an odd position, advocating your own extinction. However, based on the underlying worldview, this position is much less strange. They are advocating this based on their belief that humans are contributing to run away climate change and are thus destroying the earth. This reflects a fundamental belief that, since we evolved from the earth, earth is our “mother” and should be treated with near God-like reverence. This belief appeared in American politics recently with a politician claiming that the world would end in twelve years and so people should not be having children.
A UK based population group was also quoted in the CBC article mentioned that many women they talk to feel “judged” for not having children. In a society that pushes women to be career oriented, I can’t imagine that this is common, except perhaps in the women’s heads. Innately most women love children and want to have their own. Very few actually actively dislike children.
This viewpoint that children are a curse on “mother earth” comes from the view that humans are destroying the earth with climate change. Of course, this is a myth. Man-made climate change is debatable at best, and it is certainly not going to bring an end to the world, alarmists aside. Ultimately, however, this view traces back to an evolutionary worldview. Since earth brought us forth, we have an obligation to take care of it, or so the line of logic goes.
This is not without some basis. God calls us to be good stewards of the resources He has given us. However, this does not give us a basis to deny what the Bible says about the blessing of having children. “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” Psalms 127:3 tells us. Two verses later, it tells us ” Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.”, speaking specifically of children. Note that the word speak means to “subdue”. In other words, the Bible says that the children are a reward from the Lord and having a lot of them is a blessing. This mindset is exactly the opposite of the mindset being promoted by the secularized world.
The fact that children are under attack in the modern culture as bad for the earth should come as no surprise to discerning Christians. Satan always wants to counterfeit and do the opposite of what God does. Since God loves children, Satan hates them. Satan has used turned the world against children in a lot of ways, from abortion to pedophilia. The people involved in this hatred for children should be warned. Jesus had stern words for people who hurt children. “And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.” Mark 9:42. Considering the coming judgement, it would be well for those hating children to consider His words.
