Keeping Christ in His Creation
The question in the title should register for anyone who has read the New Testament. It’s the question asked by Pontius Pilate in John 18:38. Jesus had just finished explaining that His kingdom was not of this world and that His purpose on earth was to bear witness to the truth. That prompted Pilate to ask “What is Truth?” It is an important question, even today, and deserves an answer.
Evolution determines ancestry by reference to a phylogenetic tree. Phylogenetic trees are built based on homologous traits. Homology refers to similarity in the traits. Therefore, in the evolutionary view, gross overall similarity, in either genetics or morphology, is determining ancestry. This idea matters for our discussion because speciation, in an ultimate sense, is a question of ancestry. Many species concepts appeal in some sense or another to a most recent common ancestor.
Unfortunately, we have a culture in Christianity where daring to question anyone in authority is forbidden. If you dare speak up, you are immediately labeled as divisive. It does not matter if the authority is wrong, or if they have completely misrepresented/ignored the Biblical text. All that matters is that they are an authority
The title seems melodramatic, but realistically, it’s true. Evangelicalism, as both a movement and as a word interchangeable with Christianity, is dead. There are still Christians in America, and even some within Evangelicalism, but by and large, the idea of a Christian America where everyone at least had some knowledge of the Scriptures is over.
