SBC Embraces Reparations

Folks, if you’re Southern Baptist, it may be time to reconsider tithing. Now that I have your attention, let me explain what I mean. In a move that shocked no one paying attention, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky recently announced they would be keeping their buildings named after their slaveholding founders. However, in deference to the woke mob, they announced they would be providing 5 million in scholarships to “black” students, and offered “lament” over the sins of the founders of the school.

While the school is not calling the 5 million dollar scholarship fund reparations, those on the “woke” end of pseudo-Christianity see it for what it is. One of the discernment blogs (which I normally trust only about as far as I can throw them), kindly provided the screenshot of one of the “black” leaders in the “woke church” calling it reparations. I double-checked the screenshot. It’s legitimate. So Protestia (formerly Pulpit & Pen) got something right. As you can see via the linked tweet, this was not enough for the woke mob. SBTS is paying reparations now, but that’s not enough. The woke are never satisfied, even with complete surrender. They will come back for more. SBTS will end up completely surrendering to the woke mob.

I did a little digging into the SBTS budget and sources of funding. SBTS has an annual budget of around 31 million dollars. In 2017-18, the school received north of 10.1 million, around a third of its budget, from the tithes of faithful Southern Baptist church members. The funds SBTS receives are more than any other seminary in the convention. Presumably, the rest of its budget came from tuition and fees, as well as grants and donors to the school. We can ignore that because it’s beside the point. The point is, the pew sitter in the Southern Baptist Convention is now funding reparations.

Some of you who are faithful Southern Baptist churchgoers might object that this is not reparations since the school is not calling it such. I would remind any such objectors of the proverb “Actions speak louder than words”. SBTS has largely embraced critical race theory. For crying out loud, their provost, Matthew Hall openly admitted to being a racist and still has a job! Hall is “white” and in his context what he means is he is inborn with racist tendencies because he is “white”. The only reason this comment did not result in his termination was that it fit with the CRT narrative that “whiteness” is sinful, which is being explicitly taught by some professors at SBTS. For example, see Founder’s Ministries documentary By What Standard? which contains at least one other SBTS professor making outrageously anti-Biblical statements.

With that background laid, I want you to ask yourself a question. Would SBTS ever, under any circumstances, establish a 5 million dollar scholarship fund for “white” students? If you come up with any answer other than “absolutely not!” you’re lying to yourself. It would never happen and, even if in some absurdly insane situation it did happen, the school would be crucified, and rightly so, as racist. Imagine how the press would respond if they got wind of a “whites only” scholarship. SBTS would be litigated into the ground and would take so much bad press they would be forced to rescind the scholarship. Yet for some reason, there will be no litigation and no bad press for an equally racist scholarship. Why is that? Some of you probably have figured it out by now. This scholarship is not racist because it is paying for the sins of the SBTS founders. In other words, reparations.

Those of you paying attention undoubtedly saw this coming. The SBC as a whole has been on a downgrade for a while. Just in case there is any doubt as to whether reparations are Biblical, considered that the Bible makes it clear that only the sinner is to be punished, not his parents or children. “The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.” Ezekiel 18:20 could not be more clear. Turns out, the founders of SBTS are dead, and so are their slaves. Therefore, the founders can neither pay reparations for their sin, nor can their victims receive them. But Biblical facts do not matter to the woke mob.

For those of you in the SBC, I think its time to consider either withholding your tithes all together, or speaking with your pastor and deacons/elders to ensure the church is not funding the mess that the SBC machine is becoming. If your church refuses to step away from funding the SBC, consider sending your tithe either directly to missionaries, or to a parachurch ministry you feel strongly about. Don’t stop tithing, just stop sending the money to places that are teaching a false religion. The Bible makes it clear we should not be supporting this wickedness “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14. Sending the SBC money is being “yoked” together in the work they are doing, much of which is unBiblical. The only way this will stop is if you stop feeding the woke machine.
