One of the common genetic arguments used to argue for human-chimp common ancestry is the supposed chromosome 2 fusion event. According to the evolutionists, supposedly the fusion took place after the human-chimpanzee split, but prior to the divergence into Denisovans and Neanderthals. There are, however, a lot of problems with the chromosome 2 fusion model.
Evolution determines ancestry by reference to a phylogenetic tree. Phylogenetic trees are built based on homologous traits. Homology refers to similarity in the traits. Therefore, in the evolutionary view, gross overall similarity, in either genetics or morphology, is determining ancestry. This idea matters for our discussion because speciation, in an ultimate sense, is a question of ancestry. Many species concepts appeal in some sense or another to a most recent common ancestor.
For those who are unfamiliar with the term, it is in reference to the fact that life tends to be easily categorized. We have fairly obvious groups; fish, birds, bacteria, mammals and so on. Evolutionists like to tout this as evidence that all organisms arose from a common ancestor. However, there are deep flaws in this idea; flaws we will explore today.
