In the last few years, a new trend has begun taking off across the culture, that being trans-genderism. The movement claims that the gender assigned to a person at birth is irrelevant. All that matters is how they feel. If they choose to live as the gender opposite that which they were born, they believe they should be treated as such, even to the point of using restrooms meant for the gender they call themselves rather than that which they were born to. How does this play into the great Origins debate and what does the science say. Let’s take a look.
First, let’s define what gender means. Per Merriam-Webster.com, gender means either “sex” or “the behavioral, cultural, or psychological traits typically associated with one sex”. Essentially this means that those who claim to be transgender are attempting to become the sex they were not born to and acting as if they were of that sex. What is a sex? Merriam-Webster.com once again provides two excellent definitions. “either of the two major forms of individuals that occur in many species and that are distinguished respectively as female or male especially on the basis of their reproductive organs and structures” or “the sum of the structural, functional, and behavioral characteristics of organisms that are involved in reproduction marked by the union of gametes and that distinguish males and females” Essentially sex translates to male and female biologically. Something to point out is that, according to the transgender activists, there are not two genders rather multiple. Their loud screeches for attention has caused Facebook to offer 58 different gender choices to its users. So there are at least that many different genders according to transgender activists.
With all that background out of the way, let’s discuss the implications. If gender is not assigned at birth as the transgender advocates claim, then anything goes. A man can claim to be a woman or a man depending on his feelings that day. It also opens the door for a man to claim to be a woman to get places a normal man could not, for example, women’s locker rooms. Since it is not permitted to question the man’s feelings, no one can prohibit him from entering the woman’s area and then acting like a perverted man towards any woman inside. Sex is no longer something you are biologically born to, but rather something that can be changed on a whim, to fit the mood of the individual.
Despite the risks, transgender advocates claim that they are the way of the future and that science supports their ideas. I lay no claims to prophetic ability so I will leave their claims about the future alone. However, the science most certainly does not support their claim. Gender is determined in an unborn baby by genes called the X and Y chromosomes. Having two X chromosomes makes a baby female while having one of each makes a baby male. There is a lot more to it than that, but having that Y chromosome causes the baby to develop masculine traits and features such as increased testosterone. In rare cases, people do exhibit genetics opposite their physical features. This is a result of a genetic failure, and the people involved can generally function as the physical gender they are assigned by their genes. However, barring a mutation, X and Y chromosomes are absolute. Two X chromosomes equal a girl, one of each equals a boy.
The evolutionists have been vocal in their support for transgender ideology. Evolutionary television personality Bill Nye, best known as “the Science Guy” recently released a documentary series called “Bill Nye Saves the World”. In one episode he discusses gender and states that gender is “more like a kaleidoscope” and “what makes someone male or female isn’t so clear-cut”. Ironically, back in 1996, Nye had an episode of his television show in which he claimed gender was defined by chromosomes, rather than a “kaleidoscope.” In the same episode, Rachel Bloom, who apparently is known for something, sings lyrics including the words “It’s evolution, ain’t nothing new. There’s nothing taboo about a sex stew.” The song is revolting, but it apparently claims that being either transgender or gay is a perfectly natural result of evolution. Nye isn’t the only one. In an article in Newsweek, a far-left magazine, writer Alexander Nazaryan rips into those attacking Nye for his abandonment of science, calling them, ironically, “anti-science”. A third evolutionist, John Money, writes in Homosexuality/Heterosexuality: Concepts of Sexual Orientation “Monosexuality, whether homosexual or heterosexual, is secondary and a derivative of the primary bisexual or ambisexual potential.” The essential application here is that somehow the two genders evolved from one gender capable of doing both male and female functions.
The issue here for the evolutionist is that transgendered and by extension, gay people, do not reproduce. If a person is a woman who thinks herself a man and attempts to have sexual relations with another woman, there will never be a child produced. It’s simply not possible biologically. A child requires the information from his mother’s egg cell and his father’s sperm cell in order to survive and grow. Without the information from the sperm cell acquired at fertilization, the egg is discarded. This causes a huge issue for the evolutionist. Bill Nye conveniently provides us with an example. When asked what the point of life is if we just live and die, his answer was essentially that we are here to pass our genes on to the next generation. This is impossible for a transgender or gay relationship to perform. Evolution will select against transgendered and gay individuals because they cannot produce offspring, meaning that over time, any gene which supposedly causes transgenderism or homosexuality would be bred out of the population. Thus non-heterosexual sexual preferences are actually contrary to evolutionary theory and either slow or prevent human evolution. With this being the case, evolutionists should be up in arms against transgenderism, and yet they embrace it with open arms.
Creationists oppose transgenderism as a perversion of God’s original creation. The Bible clearly states in Genesis 1:27 that “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” If that was not clear enough, Jesus says in Matthew 19:4-5 “And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?” He is quoting Genesis 1:27 and Genesis 2:24, which established the basis for monogamous, heterosexual, lifelong marriage. God calls the perversion of the genders an “abomination”. Gender neutral is not an option in the Scriptures, nor is it in the chromosomes. One is either male or female, not a combination of both.
